Fishing Report - Friday 20 March

Fishing Report - Friday 20 March

The water temp around Sydney is very warm and with it there are plenty of fish feeding and visiting Sydney from more tropical waters with a very rare and unique catch of a juvenile tiger shark caught in Watson's Bay in Sydney Harbour! The speedsters like bonito are still feeding on the surface, the beaches are loaded with small dusky whaler sharks and kingfish are still abundant.

Sydney Harbour - Craig McGill

Caught a juvenile Tiger shark in Watsons bay, very rare, only ever seen one of these in the harbour in 35years of guiding and a good indicator of how warm the water is too.  A few kings still around along with lots of small bonito and frigate mackerel.

Fishing for kings is frustrating at the moment some better fish around but the water quality changes frequently. You have to be prepared to move and try different tactics . Bait easy at the usual haunts

It’s baitball season and the fishing has not disappointed. We’ve landed up to 7 species on fly and lure from single baitballs! Some larger bonito are around the headlands with smaller models still prolific. Mac tuna up to 4kg continue to thrill my light tackle anglers.
Kingfish remain very concentrated in the harbour with a couple of schools of rats entertaining us but requiring very specific location targeting. The hordes of kings that usually scatter the inshore are once again absent. Overall the fishing remains great!

Spanish, Spotties, Longtail and Cobes all being caught on the inshore reefs. Strong currents offshore making it difficult to fish beyond 50 metres. Plenty of bait on the grounds
