Fishing Report - Friday 10 July

Fishing Report - Friday 10 July

It's cold, but the good news is the days are slowly getting longer and the fish are still on the bite! With water temperatures remaining unusually warm, summer pelagics are still lingering throughout Sydney Harbour. That said, they've been well and truly overshadowed by the huge schools of Australian salmon! The harbour, Pittwater and the local beaches are alive with these hard-fighting speedsters, eagerly smashing both baits and lures. They're also fantastic fun for kids and anglers of all skill levels.

If you're looking to take the kids for a fish, the local wharves throughout Sydney Harbour and Pittwater have been producing some quality silver trevally. A steady trail of berley is the key to attracting them, and mushed-up bread works perfectly. Fish a small hook, little to no sinker and light line, then simply drift your bait back through the berley trail. Trevally have relatively soft mouths, so take your time during the fight and avoid sudden lifts or sharp jerks, as this can easily pull the hook.

Sydney Harbour - Craig McGill

Some great fishing over the last few weeks with foaming schools of bonito, salmon and frigates in the lower reaches  and some big winter kings upstream.

Sydney Harbour Fishing Tours

Great fishing prior to the wind and waves appearing, again ! We are still facing issues with shark predation at most spots. You will get more fish in using heavier gear and shortening the fight .

Rock & Beach  - Fishing Station

The water has cooled which has seen the small whaler sharks move on and replaced by XL salmon. These fish are schooling up in deep gutters across all our beaches and taking a variety of baits and metals. Heaps of fun on lighter gear and some like to eat them however, they make better food for the dog!

The rocks have been fishing OK. The recent clearer and calm water has slowed the bite but for those braving the cold there have been good numbers of silver trevally on offer with the odd pan-sized snapper in the mix. Rock blackfish are also on the bite but they are playing hard to get so if you are targeting them try to downgrade your line class to get the bite. We've been using 12lb which has got the bite but landing them on that light gear is very difficult.

Winter fishing is in full swing. Bar Cod, Kings, Mulloway and Snapper all taking baits on the offshore reefs. Longtail still busting up in the bay and plenty of live bait on tap
