Fishing Report 12 June

Fishing Report 12 June

Winter has been producing the goods! The weather has been fantastic, and the fishing has been just as good. The Hawkesbury is producing big flathead and jewfish, while Pittwater has seen solid numbers of hairtail, estuary perch and, yes, even speedsters like bonito and mac tuna. Kingfish are still biting in Sydney Harbour, although they're becoming a little harder to find. Our beaches are also fishing well, with quality bream, whiting and Aussie salmon all being caught.

Away on holidays at the moment. Getting some great bass, bream and flatties on the Bellinger River.

Glamour weather. Sharks are still an issue and now the seals have joined in! Kings are moving around a fair bit and so is the bait, so be prepared to move. School holidays are filling up, so don't wait to book.

Pittwater & Sydney - Justin Duggan

Winter fishing continues to be fantastic with some huge hairtail on lure and fly coming aboard. Forget the bait – artificials are far better on these fish. Add some 50lb single strand wire and you're away! Estuary perch are around the Pittwater marinas. Some small schools of large salmon are kicking around Sydney Heads and Broken Bay, along with large bonito. Mack tuna are in Broken Bay but are flighty. Large flathead are taking Bait Junkie minnows intended for mulloway, with some fish reaching the late 70cm and even 80cm mark.

Would you like to learn to fly cast? My winter workshop is on June 13. Email justin@sydneyflyfishing.com.au for details.

Overall, the weather and fishing are superb. I have open slots for charters. I'm also running my Fishing Frothers kids lure courses on July 8, 15 and 17 at $125 per child (12–17 years), with a limit of four participants per session.

The Hawkesbury is fishing well from the mouth to the upper reaches. 3–6" paddle tails have been doing the trick, with flathead on the deeper drop-offs, bream tight to the edges, and plenty of small jewfish schooling in the holes. 🎣👌🏼

Beach & Rock Fishing - Alex Bellissimo

Bellissimo Rock Beach Fishing Guide

Beaches are fishing well lately, with salmon numbers increasing and whiting also in good numbers. Although most are in the 28–33cm range, the odd monster whiting has been showing up among them. Some days are also producing quality bream to 40cm. Dee Why and Manly beaches have been the standout locations.

Off the rocks, trevally and plate-sized snapper have been common captures. Some huge bonito to 80cm have also been landed, along with a solid 56cm snapper from North Whale Rocks and Bluefish.
