Both types have flared ends to prevent damage as well as cutouts for gimbal pin location so you can adjust the holder to suit your requirements.
Use a rod rigger to spread your baits or lures to get them out of the prop wash, where they can be better seen & targeted by your quarry & reduce the chance of crossed lines & tangles.
