Local Fishing Report August 1

Local Fishing Report August 1

The weather is pretty average this weekend however, over the past few weeks the fishing has been awesome! There are still plenty of tuna being caught off Sydney and beyond in one of the better tuna seasons over the past few years. Snapper are on the bite inshore and the Aussie salmon have started to invade the Harbour.

South West Rocks

Plenty of Kings around taking live baits and deep jigging. Snapper and Pearl Perch fishing really well on the shallower reefs. The odd Yellowfin Tuna and Striped Marin on the shelf.

There are vast schools of Salmon in the harbour at the moment, some of the the best I've seen in many years. They are in exceptional condition and the best bit is that they are taking nearly any lure regardless of size!  Troll round the headlands or look for the birds and cast metal slugs.

Kings have been good the last two weeks but have been spread out so be prepared to search for them . They have been favouring slimies but squid is a handy back up . The weather is still unsettled so if you’re not sure don’t go.

When the seas are flat it is squid time! Smashing a few southern calamari using the Emeraldas Amorous Joint, sensational and unique jig. South Curl Curl, Mona Vale pool ledge and North Whale ledges. Also flat seas off the rocks for Snapper, salmon, trevally, Infeet Metal Vibe 7gms. Also Pilchards, squid strips and prawn baits have been working equally as well.

A reminder - Always check the weather report before fishing the ocean rocks and stay safe. All beaches in the Northern Beaches are required to wear a lifejacket when fishing.
