Local Fishing Report - 15 May
Winter is just around the corner but the fishing is still heating up. The water in the harbour has cooled but there are still good numbers of kingfish being caught with jewfish and big squid in the mix. Pittwater and the Hawkesbury has seen a drop in surface action but the hairtail and jewfish action has made up for it. Whiting are going nuts off our local beaches with whiting up to 40cm being caught on most beaches!
Sydney Harbour - Craig McGill
Water temp starting to drop but it hasn't stopped the kings putting in a late appearance around some of the better known upstream spots on middle harbour and the main harbour. Also some big bonito in the lower harbour.
Sydney Harbour/Sydney Offshore - Stuart Reid
The Kings have been pretty good lately though catching live bait has been a chore. Some days easier to catch squid. Blackfish are starting to bite as well .
Sydney - Hawkesbury/Pittwater/Harbour - Justin Duggan
Pittwater still has some scattered surface action but you’ll need to find the bait. Large bonito and frigate mackerel are about and the odd king. The harbour has become very quiet for surface fish. Further up the Hawkesbury we’ve been catching salmon, finnyscad , flathead, mulloway and snapper off baitballs. Hairtail can still be caught one and fly in the Hawkesbury. These fish have a peculiar artifact on a sounder but once you find a school a vibe with 50lb single strand wire or a white clouser is far more effective than bait
Beach & Rock Fishing - Fishing Station
Our beaches have developed some awesome gutters. Palm Beach, Long Reef and Dee Why have very good structure. These beaches have produced plenty of whiting in both size and numbers. Live worms the best bait with pippis, live nippers and frozen worms coming in second. Salmon have also been hunting in the same gutters taking worm baits which makes for a great fight on light gear. The luderick and rock blackfish are starting to show up in numbers off the ocean rocks.
