Summer is just around the corner and summer fish are starting to arrive with the Fishing Station team getting into some striped marlin off Sydney. The Broken Bay and Sydney FADs have been deployed for while but there haven't been any reports of mahi mahi just yet. Inshore has seen captures of big snapper and kings and the beaches are warming up with big catches of whiting and bream.

A few kings starting to show up in the harbour, no monsters but a few up to 80cm. Squid have been tough but plenty of cuttle fish around. There has also been some good salmon but mostly down deep on baits.

The photo is a recaptured tagged fish and it was released again for another angler to experience the thrill of a big king or just spear it once and keep it !

The warming water has seen the salmon schools become more sporadic but the fish sizes are seriously big!! For the most part the tuna have moved on. The odd kingfish is being encountered, mostly large models which are gearing up for spawning in October/November, all the more reason to release the big breeders. It’s interesting to note Victoria have now dropped the kingfish bag limit from 5 to 2 per angler. Hopefully NSW will act as well. Smaller classes of kings remain almost entirely absent even though it is peak season.

The snapper fishing is improving off our local rock ledges. Try squid strips, half pilchards and large peeled prawns. Distance casting or fishing the sudsy white water both working well. Bluefish front, North Curl Curl and North Whale rocks. Some whiting and bream on worm baits. Lots o salmon. Dee Why beach and Newport beach. Live worms and OT Jigs 30gms.
