Downriggers & Accessories

Downrigging is an extremely effective way of targeting a range of gamefish species around the country. Enabling an angler to actively target fish deeper in the water column with precision and consistency.

Downriggers are devices that comprise of a braked spool with heavy wire or braided line set onto a short, stiff boom arm with a rolling pulley attached. They fix to the boat through various attachment options, and carry a heavy lead weight from which your fishing line and bait is attached via a release clip. The weight takes your offering down to the desired depth where the angler can then troll the area knowing their bait or lure is in the bite zone of the fish. Once bitten, the fishing line releases, allowing the angler to fight the fish unencumbered by the heavy weight, which can then be wound up independently, clear from the water, ready for the next deployment.

Originally designed for fishing the northern hemisphere waters for salmon, trout and pike, they have become an almost essential item for those inshore anglers trolling live baits for yellowtail kingfish, Spanish mackerel and even marlin. While they do certainly work when used in freshwater impoundments for trout and salmon, the larger sizes and heavier weights we tend to stock and sell are nearly always used for the inshore saltwater enthusiast.

Cannon and Scotty are the most renowned brand names when it comes to downriggers and we carry popular models from both, as well as a larger range of downrigger weights, release clips and mounting options for every boat.
