Reels

Fishing Reels are essentially a line management tool when rod and reel fishing. They are designed to store enough of your chosen fishing line (up to 1000m+ in some cases) in a compact and tidy manner. They must have the ability to release the fishing line in the correct way, either casting or by “free spooling" out. They must be able to retrieve the fishing line back onto the reel in a controlled way, while again storing it tidily. And they must be built strong enough to fight fish with available drag resistance to tire fish or apply drag pressure where necessary, while also retrieving line under pressure.

There are a large variety of fishing reels available on the market, and can be broken down into a number of sub categories. Each type of reel will have an advantage for a particular style of fishing, and the design and technology used today really is impressive. Much like with rods, there is really no one reel that can do everything for you, but fishing reels are more transitional across fishing types than rods are.

Whether you are starting out on a jetty, dropping baits to bream and leatherjacket amongst the pylons, sight-casting barramundi or permit on the tropical inshore flats, spinning metals in Pittwater for flathead, tailor or kingfish, or out on the Bluewater trolling for Marlin or deep-dropping for Blue Eye, there is a reel for the purpose, and we stock them all!
